The following list briefly describes information about the people behind the QFK Web and the related study abroad program.
Paul David Henry, Ph.D.
QFK role: Faculty / QFK Program Coordinator & Developer
Prior to developing the Quest For Knowledge study abroad and Web-based programs, he created other distance learning resources in support of the classes he has taught at NYU and other colleges.
Paul is an e-learning and IT consultant, teacher, and author of books and articles on using computer and network technology for communications and learning. Additional background and publication information is available on his Program House Web site.
Donald T. Payne, Ph.D.
QFK role: Faculty / QFK Program Advisor
Don has over 30 years of teaching experience in educational technology and cognitive science as a professor at NYU and through earlier teaching assignments in Korea. Prior to teaching, he worked as a researcher in educational testing and evaluation. His scholarly activities center around curriculum research and development, especially in the use of computer-based interactive environments for learning complex skills such as reading comprehension and multimedia-based learning.
Don has maintained an active role in multi-cultural learning as a guest lecturer and as an advisor on study-abroad programs in India and China. He led a group of students in a study-abroad program in Paris which focused on interactive multimedia and multi-cultural learning.
Peggy Sotirhos
QFK role: Office of Special Programs QFK Liaison and Scholarly Guide Coordinator
Prior to developing scholarly and institutional contacts for the QFK-Greece study abroad program through the NYU Office of Special Programs, Peggy has been actively involved in multi-cultural, field-based learning through her role as a program developer and coordinator on study-abroad programs, such as "Journey through Antiquity", a study abroad trip in Greece for international high school students. Her current scholarly work is centered around English Education with a special concentration on Multiculturalism and the Humanities. She previously held the role of Assistant Director of Cultural Outreach at the Alexander S. Onassis Center for Hellenic Studies at NYU, through which she supported cultural exchange programs.
Eleni Zachariou
QFK role: Faculty / Greece National Guide
Eleni Zachariou holds a B.A. in foreign languages from the University of Geneva and an M.A degree in History from the University of La Verne. She has worked as a translator in French, English and German for the United Nations in New York. As an official guide certified as an historian on all archeological sights in Greece, she will guide the group through their learning odyssey at sites.
For over ten years, as co-founder of Vacances Travel, she has accompanied cultural and study groups throughout Greece. As a guide, lecturer, and resident director she has worked extensively in organizing summer progrmas and seminar tours for schools and Universities for the United States, including the Smithsonian Museum, University of Pennsylvania, Grinell College, Choate Rosemary Hall and the Dalton School. Eleni is also director of the program, Journey Through Antiquity, a summer study program for international high school students to learn about Greece from pre-history to the modern state. In addition to history, her interests include archeology, art history, and religious studies.
